Generative AI tools are quickly becoming commonplace in cloud business models
The adoption of generative AI tools is on the rise within cloud business models, and Microsoft’s Azure platform is leading the way. A recent analysis by cloud security platform provider Wiz reveals that over 70% of cloud environments are now leveraging managed AI services. The prevalence of OpenAI, whether directly or through Azure SDKs, underscores the growing importance of generative AI.
– Specifically, Azure AI Service instances are present in 70% of Azure environments, translating to approximately 39% of overall cloud environments. Azure’s OpenAI usage surged by an impressive 228% over a four-month period in 2023. While this dominance is not surprising given Azure’s robust managed offerings, it’s worth noting that Amazon SageMaker closely follows on Azure’s heels with 38% deployment.
– Most users currently fall into the experimentation phase, with 32% exploring managed AI services. However, active users (28%) and power users (10%) are also significant segments. Power users manage 50 or more AI service instances in their environment.
– Beyond Azure, the report highlights the prevalence of self-hosted AI and ML software in the cloud. Hugging Face Transformers (45%), LangChain (32%), and the Tensorflow Hub library (22%) are commonly used tools. Looking ahead, cost considerations for training and inference will be critical for customers in the next 12 months.
